Eve Space - Just Following a Trend :)

AMD Phenom 9750 X4 2.4 Ghz quad core CPU
8 GB 1066 Mhz RAM
4 hard drives totalling 3.5 TB of space.
EVGA NVidia GeForce 8800GT
Plextor DVD-RW DL Drive
All powered by a Corsair Tx650 W

In/out are an Apple bluetooth mini keyboard, and a Logitech G5 laser mouse.
This system currently boots Windows 7 64 bit, XP 32 bit, Ubuntu 64 bit, and Apple OSX Snow Leo.
I run 3 Eve clients on it at once normally with a bunch of other stuff going in the background.

Around the space are my favorite hat. :P A Tim Horton's Christmas edition cup, my 16GB iPod Touch, and on the board is an autographed sign from Jarett Cale over at Pure Pwnage. On the mini fridge is my Xbox 360, and a UPS unit that has saved many an EVE session from dying.

Canflipping Extrema

So last night, I was sitting around Dodixie bored out of my mind waiting for war targets to undock, and got the idea to go to their home system in my Rifter, stopping along each belt along the way to shoot rats to improve my sec status, and maybe even annoy some miners.

The trip there was uneventful, and consisted of ganking small rats. However, when I reached their home system, 8 jumps away, I noticed that it was abuzz with miners. I warped over to the first belt, and saw a retriever with a can out. I waltzed up, jetted my own, and put his ore (a FULL 27km3 of it) into my can.

He deployed drones, and I orbited a bit wider, after a while, he warped off. I started my Orca alt hauling ass the 8 jumps to scoop the ore. While it was hopping through systems, the miner came back in a Thorax, and deployed medium drones. Let me remind you, I was in a Rifter... Medium drones aren't so good at hitting light ships. I orbited at around 30km, and he was apparently unable to engage with his drones. I just wanted to hold off until the Orca had picked up the ore. Unfortunately, he warped seconds before the Orca landed and scooped the payload of ore, and I never saw him again.

Continuing on to the next belt, I came across two miners, both with cans out. Added to that, they had an Orca of their own in the center of the belt, next to a Brutix battlecruiser. Presumably it was there for fire support if someone such as... me, showed up.

This required some finesse. I warped my neutral Orca in first, positioning it in the middle of the belt, away from their support ships, and warped my Rifter in at 100km. I bookmarked both cans, warped out, and warped to the first one. Again, I jetted mine, and flipped the ore, and immediately warped out.

Tractoring the can with the Orca, I noticed that it was nearly full as well. My Orca was nearly full! I warped my Rifter back to the other can, and flipped it the same way, tractoring it in, but this time, I started orbiting the Brutix at 30km. It targeted, but never engaged. What use is fire support if it won't be used? I warped off after a few minutes, and at this point my Orca had ore coming out its airlocks, and I made the journey back to Dodixie.

So, some tips for miners:
Fire support needs to be willing to engage.
Fire support needs to be near the CANS.
Haulers need to be near the CANS.
Never leave a FULL can around.
Don't AFK mine.

Flipping cans and fleeting up.

So this last week has been rather busy. I've had mucho work in RL that I've had to deal with, but it's finally march break, which means a full week.... of EVE.

I logged in late today to find Adrae, a fellow ninja, ready to start a small op of his own. Wanting to fleet salvage myself, I offered my Orca and scanning abilities, and we formed a small fleet ready to begin.

The first action we got was about 4 hours later. Adrae warped into a mission where there were no wrecks at all. He checked his dscan, and decided that the 1 container there was worth jumping the gates. Lo and behold, he gets to the container, and figures out that it's full of the ENTIRE mission's worth of loot.

We all immediately begin to warp in, as he calls out that there's a salvage ship on the way. My Orca lands, and I begin to burn it through the gates. I land a second later, and hotswap to my vigil, and warp in ahead of my Orca. We had a few moments before told Adrae to tractor the can out of range of the warp in, so the enemy salvage ship couldn't scoop it. At this point, we realize that the enemy ship is an Ishtar, which is not good at all for us, but the 3000m3 in the can of loot makes us stay.

Adrae now burns at an angle to the orca, hoping that he can reach it before the enemy ship - which is closing, reaches the can. I hotswap again to my salvage destroyer, which is a little more spacious, and burn to the can, matching speed twice over to scoop some of the loot and burn to the orca at my faster speed.

Finally, Adrae begins burning a straight path to my Orca, with the Ishtar, and now a friend of his, in hot pursuit. They must have had full cargo holds, because they begin dropping cans of their own to free up space for what we're towing. This is confirmed when they both begin flashing red in my overview, which means they've stolen from our can, although later we realize that the took nothing of value.

Finally, as both enemy ships realize the game is up and warp out, Adrae's vigil makes it back to the Orca, where I scoop everything in the can into my hold. This entire process took around 45 minutes, and what's amazing is that they never said a word.

The rest of the op was spent in relative safety, although we managed to tank and destroy a field of large NPC's and steal a Ship's Crew - contracted publicly for 10mill.

All in all an eventful day, but I'm still looking for another kill... Haven't had a mission runner so much as take a shot at me in around 2 weeks, most of which can be accredited to me not being on.

Tengu, 2xdrake, 2xcaracal, myrm, and a rook v.s. two vigils. Hilarity ensues.

This post starts with me scanning down a drake running a mission. I warp to it in my Vigil, and start looting wrecks. He immediately warps off and returns with a Caracal. He starts pounding at me with heavy missiles. Fail for hitting a small target. So I buzz around him for a while, as Khalia warps in, and then another caracal lands and starts trying to hit me. Their attention is divided between Khalia and I, while we buzz around at ridiculous ranges looting and salvaging.

Next, I warp my alt's Orca in to the same room for can tractoring, which apparently annoys them to the point of a Cormorant which had warped in CONCORDING himself by shooting one of our cans. Fail.

Once his pod warps off, a rook comes in, and the other Caracal is replaced by a Drake. At the same time, yet another drake lands. The Rook attemps to Jam us, which is apparently all he can do, while one of the drakes and the Caracal attempt to kill us (again with heavies). Eventually, we're left with the Rook, and one Drake, and a Myrmidon that had just warped in. FINALLY, the Drake puts some drones out, and I decide to be brave and close distance. This being my one mistake for the night. My vigil pops, and I simply go retrieve another from the Orca and keep salvaging. :)

At this point, they've had enough apparently, and warp in a Tengu, which I blatantly outrun. Khalia does the same, and we continue our work.

The Caracal that's left locks my alt's Orca, for no apparent reason, and starts bumping it.
One of the MR's says this in local:

I leave the Orca there, fully tanked and ready for a gank team that NEVER shows up.
The Rook, Tengu, and a Drake lock it randomly and buzz around it while Khalia and I are off dropping off loot, and when I come back in a Rifter, oldfool52, the original MR is at his mission in a PvP fit Thorax. I engage.

He throws medium drones out and I have virtually no tank with this ship (I had simply piloted it and undocked without checking fitting). At this point, he is the only one either of us have aggro on. Seconds later, Khalia warps in, and due to growing armor damage, I warp out.

Khalia Nestune is to be commended here, because he valiantly engages and stalls the Thorax for the nearly 5 minutes that it takes me to retrieve NinjaRaven and fit it with a web to take on the cruiser.

I land, as Khalia's Rifter explodes. I immediately start burning towards the Thorax, who amazingly, and stupidly, starts burning towards me and engages with his drones. Lock, point, web, drones, torpedoes, and the Thorax looses its shield in seconds. Armor however, is more resistant, and suddenly I realize that I haven't engaged my neuts... Dual Neutralizers biting into his capacitor, the cruiser's tank is overcome, and it drops quickly.

A few seconds after that, the Thorax assplodes, leaving me with various loot, and some T2 drones to pick up.

Of course, both Khalia and I come back and salvage + loot his entire mission, with the Rook and the rest of the fleet unable to do anything but buzz angrily around.

Half an hour later, I get a convo from the rook pilot. I won't edit this, as it's too long, but do read it, as it's probably the funniest part:

Basically what happened is that the CEO came online, and I convinced him to loan me the Orca for an all night mining session. He then contracted it over. SCORE!

Ant that's it. These ones weren't much for tears, and the CEO ragelogged a few minutes later. Suffice is to say, I have a new Orca, a boatload of assets, and that particular corp will probably disband. My conscience is actually screaming at me... But it worked so flawlessly...

Dax Quinn Meets NinjaRaven / NinjaRaven's first kill

It had been a slow day in Dodixie, and I was winding down, just hoping to loot a few fields before the end of the day. Our fleet was slowly scanning and working through some hits. The call went out from Zarago Vamiska to join him at a large-ish field of wrecks. I immediately warped in, and found a Dominix shooting at some NPC's. I sauntered up, and grabbed a nice juicy 1200mm artillery gun.

He immediately locked and fired, and I made a strategic withdrawal to assume control of NinjaRaven. Once docked, I swapped for my untested ship, and proceeded to undock as fast as the station would let me. Once out, I entered warp, arriving on the first gate with ~10 min left on the counter.

Going through the next few gates was tedious, as I watched the timer go down from 10 to 5 minutes, it was going to be relatively close.

I activated the final gate with 4 minutes to spare, arriving on the field shortly after. Two of my other fleetmates were already there, ready to assist with extra damage and remote repair - the mission runner had locked and fired on all 3 of us surprisingly.

It took several tense moments to lock him, but within a few seconds, he was pointed, and torpedoes were raining onto his shield. Only something was wrong, I wasn't getting the hits I was expecting.. A quick check showed I had loaded the wrong type of damage for his tank. Seconds later, my launchers were back up, this time launching Inferno torpedoes. These worked quite effectively...

Seconds later, he popped, giving NinjaRaven its first kill, and dropping a bit of loot in the process.

A Fantastic Day!

In direct opposite from my last post, today was awesome!
I awoke to my trusty Rifter, the one that had survived a kill, and was still kicking. I undocked and proceeded to start scanning the depths of Amamake. Withing a minute, I had a Rifter on my screens. My modules were spooled up and ready to kill even before I landed on top of this cousin of a ship. His shield, and then his armor quickly succumbed to my cannons. Another kill. After losing concord with a push of the warp button, I started scanning once again. At this point a few corp members decided to run an op into Egghelende. It wa only two jumps away, so I joined in. After a while, we scouted out a Brutix. We were ordered to engage. After landing 100km away from it, it called in support. There were 5 of them before half of us decided to bail. The other half died in the fire.

However, this wasn't the end of the day. I had survived, and made the trip back to Amamake unharmed. Once again, I picked my favorite spot, and started scanning for targets. At one point, I warped in on an Omen, but i ran before I could pin it. Finally, I found an Osprey. I felt lucky this time, I warped in, systems at the ready, landed 7000m away. Perfect. The cruiser was scrambled, webbed, and taking damage before it registered me, before long, it was into armor, and soon after that, hull. In no time In had looted the wreck, and lost concord. I remember screaming Yarr! into the nearest channel, although I have no idea which.

Today was a little odd.. I started out in high sec, but soon the calling of lowsec was too strong. I prepared my Rifter, and made the journey. What I found in Amamake was an early Christmas present from Wensley. I'd been gifted with 29 Rifters and their assorted fittings. I thanked Wensley and took his offer without much hesitation. And this is where the fun begins. First, I undocked, and saw a Minmatar shuttle a little away from the base. I made a run to it, locked and stupidly, started shooting. I thought I could kill and get away from that range, I was of course, wrong. It was a stupid mistake that costed me a ship. I waited out the timer, which then changed to yellow. After undocking, my shiny replacement was blasted yet again, but why? I had not aggressed... But this time, I made it to a safespot, and waited for my ship to recover from the shock the sentries had created. Next, I started scanning, which resulted in me finding an Ishkur at a belt. On warping in, he was apparently taking off to the next belt. I gave chase. By the time I got to the second, he had gone back to the first. Grr. Upon looking into his character, I learned that he wa vastly older than I, and a wanted criminal. I decided to leave this one alone.

So I started scanning again, and instantly came across a caracal. Upon warping to the belt, the Caracal flashed momentarily across my readout, then vanished. A Caracal with a cloak? I decided it best not to stick around. I was getting bored, and so jumped on a Vexor in a belt ratting. Long story short, I got drone'd.

I fitted up my last Rifter of the day, and headed back out. A few moments later, a Navitas undocked, and headed out at sublight. I followed. Once we were at 150km from the station, I opened up, shredding the little ship like paper. I turned to the pod, and killed it too. My boredom was not alleviated. :(

So there you have it folks, my second kill ever, and it's on a semi AFK Navitas pilot with civilian loot. Oh well. He's the one stupid enough to be AFK in lowsec.

So I was cruising around yesterday, and decided to flip some cans.. Found a Thrasher at a station, followed it to a belt, and kept a distance. Approached it to get into position. Then he locked me. Turns out he's the same one who called in his buddy to come kill me when I tried to ransom him. We got to talking, and it turns out he's in a small, new corp looking for new pilots. So now I find myself in this new corp, maybe I'll stay, maybe not, depends if they come when needed. :)

Oh, and I got to fight the CEO's Brutix in my Rifter. Pinned him down and took out his shield. Granted, I'd need more firepower to get rid of his tank, but hey, It was fun.

Drone boats...

I lost my Rifter to a drone boat. 'nuff said. Was looting wrecks in Amamake looking for something small to kill. I was trying to find a Rifter I had scanned, but I warped to the wrong belt. I was slow, a Thorax locked and scrammed me before I could warp. I thought I had a chance until he launched his Valkyrie II's. My shields were gone in seconds and so was my armor. In pretty much no time I was in my pod. I warped back to base. For some reason I seem to like talking to people after killing them or being killed by them...

Tuskers?

In my last pot I mentioned a few things that I forgot to link to. The first is the Tuskers. These guys are a fun crowd. :) They are the first pirate corp that I've ever spoken to, and they're rather friendly. :) The next person is what led me to the Tuskers. He goes by the name Wensley, and has a fairly large blog of his PvP encounters, largely focusing on Rifter combat. And he's what got me into piracy.

My First Kill!

Well, I've done it...
I actually managed to kill something. :)
Today was extremely fun. It began with me lurking the Tusker's public channel. Suddenly, I noticed something odd. Welsey was on. This particular Tusker is one I'd been meaning to talk to ever since starting to read his blog posts back a few months ago. I established communication and began to introduce myself. We talk for a few minutes about me getting into PvP, mainly piracy, and he points me in the direction of one of his favorite systems and his own training ground - Amamake. This is where the fun begins.

I head out in my Rifter, and close in on this mysterious system. I get this feeling, the same feeling I got while playing F.E.A.R. at night with the lights off - like someone is about to shoot me from any angle. However, this time, I have supervisor. :)

I establish a base at one of the stations, and undock. Nothing in the vicinity... So I head to the first belt I see. Nothing. Second belt, still nothing. I speed towards the third belt. My scanner registers a Rifter. I observe him dueling an NPC cruiser. All the better for me. I burn towards him, egging my ship faster, he hasn't noticed me. Right when I'm on top of him, I lock, scramble, and open up with all weapons. This is a technique Welsey has tought me through his blogs, and it's worth using. I take a look at my Rifter's readout - half armor and my target is just the same. But, like the newbie I am, I bug out, thinking I can't win. I sit in the middle of nowhere, contemplating m next move.

I warp into a belt I haven't tried yet. A Rifter immediately tries to lock me, but I notice he has a rupture buddy standing next to him. I warp out in search of better fated opportunities. I arrive at a belt I haven't explored, and notice a Thrasher duking it out with some NPC ships. This will be my target, I think, as I burn towards it as quick as my Rifter will go. It's ironic, I think to myself, last time, I nearly totalled a Thrasher, this time, I will not make the same mistake. I close to an orbit. Locked, webbed, scrambled. My missile is the first to exit my ship, tearing into my target's shields. My cannons now come to life, his shields are at half, a quarter, gone! At this point, he realizes the real threat, and begins to return fire, all the while Welsey cheering me on :). Too late, by the time my shields are down, his ship has lost armor. His hull begins to buckle. In a final flash, I'm left with a wreck. I transfer his wreck to my cargo hold by the time the NPC cruiser opens up. Having had my kill, I warp to the middle of nowhere, turning on my sublights to avoid detection. Mission accomplished.

There you have it, my recount of my very first full fledged solo kill. Not much to the experienced out there, but man, it feels good. Afterward, I established communication with my target's pilot.

First PvP

So this was rather fun... My first attempt at can flipping.
Here I am, flying along in my little Rifter. I warp into a belt. I detect 3 other ships. A velator, which poses no threat, a thrasher, and a retriever. I decide to go for the thrasher, who is using a can. I move to his can, eject my own, swap the ore, and lock the thrasher. Instantly, he locks and attacks. I start my Rifter's modules, and see his shield start to buckle, then goes his armor. Soon, I'm into his hull. I stop to convo him: bad move. I haggle over price for over a minute. All of a sudden, his mate shows up, and overwhelms my Rifter. Oh well. I learned my lesson - Never diddle daddle. :) I'm back in a new ship ready to flip some more. :P
